FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers about drone services, scheduling, deliverables, insurance documentation, residential property condition records, and what to expect when working together in Central Florida.

Licensing & Insurance

Are you FAA certified to fly drones commercially in Florida?

Yes. All flights are conducted under FAA Part 107 regulations by a certified Remote Pilot. This is required for paid drone work in the United States. Proof of certification can be provided upon request for job site access, vendor setup, or insurance verification.

Do you carry drone insurance?

Yes. Southview Drone Imaging carries aviation liability insurance specifically for drone operations. Many general contractors, commercial clients, and property managers require a Certificate of Insurance before work begins, and a COI can be provided when needed.

Pricing & Scheduling

How much does drone photography cost?

Pricing depends on the scope: what is being documented, how much area is involved, what deliverables are needed, and whether it is a one-time capture or recurring service. Most single-visit projects fall in the $200–$500 range. Construction progress packages, recurring documentation, mapping-style outputs, and more complex deliverables are quoted based on frequency and scope.

How quickly can you schedule a flight?

Most projects can be scheduled within a few days. For time-sensitive needs, same-day or next-day flights may be possible depending on weather, airspace, location, and existing bookings. Airspace and site conditions are reviewed before confirming a flight time.

Residential Property Condition Records

What is a residential property condition record?

A residential property condition record is a dated visual record of visible roof surfaces, exterior elevations, yard features, drainage areas, and other property details. It is useful before storm season, renovations, repairs, insurance discussions, home purchases, or long-term maintenance planning. It is visual documentation only, not a home inspection or roof certification.

Is this the same as a home inspection or roof certification?

No. Drone property documentation is not a home inspection, roof certification, engineering report, insurance adjustment, or code-compliance determination. The service creates organized visual records that homeowners, contractors, insurance contacts, inspectors, or other qualified professionals can review.

When is the best time to document my property?

The best time is before a major event or decision: before storm season, before roof work, before exterior renovations, before listing or buying a home, or before opening an insurance discussion. Documentation is most useful when it shows the property before a change occurs.

Can this help before storm season?

Yes. Pre-storm documentation creates a dated visual baseline of visible roof, exterior, yard, drainage, and property conditions before wind, rain, or hail. If damage is suspected later, the record can help show what was visible before the storm, but it does not replace an inspection, adjuster review, or professional damage determination.

Do you inspect for roof damage or only document what is visible?

Southview Drone Imaging documents visible roof and exterior conditions from the air and from appropriate ground-level angles when needed. I can capture clear imagery of visible wear, missing materials, debris, staining, ponding, flashing areas, and other observable conditions, but I do not diagnose damage, certify roof condition, or determine cause.

Documentation & Insurance Support

Can drones document roof conditions without walking on them?

Yes. Drones can document visible roof conditions with detailed overhead and angled imagery without anyone walking on the roof. This can be helpful for maintenance planning, pre-purchase visual review support, insurance-related documentation, and comparison before or after repairs.

Can drone photos be used for insurance documentation?

Drone photos can be used as organized visual documentation for insurance discussions, claim support, contractor communication, or personal records. They do not guarantee claim approval and do not replace the work of an adjuster, inspector, engineer, or licensed professional.

Do you determine whether an insurance claim is valid?

No. Southview Drone Imaging does not make insurance decisions, determine claim validity, estimate covered losses, assign cause of damage, or act as an adjuster. The role of the service is to capture clear, organized visual records that can be reviewed by the appropriate parties.

Are your deliverables considered a legal survey, engineering report, or inspection report?

No. Deliverables are for visual documentation, comparison, planning support, maintenance records, and review by qualified professionals. They are not boundary surveys, legal descriptions, elevation certificates, certified topographic surveys, engineering reports, home inspections, roof certifications, or signed and sealed survey deliverables.

Deliverables & Turnaround

What is orthomosaic imagery?

Orthomosaic imagery stitches together many overlapping aerial images into a single, geometrically corrected, high-resolution overhead visual. It can support site planning, visual reference, non-certified comparisons, and progress tracking. Projects requiring certified measurements, boundary work, certified quantity calculations, certified topographic surveys, or engineering reliance should be handled by the appropriate licensed professional.

How long does it take to get my photos and video?

Most projects are delivered within 24–72 hours. Simple photo sets are often ready next-day. Projects requiring more post-processing, video editing, large image sets, mapping-style outputs, or detailed labeling may take additional time. Rush delivery may be available depending on scope.

How are photos and videos delivered?

Deliverables are typically provided through a secure download link or client portal, depending on the project. Files can be organized by date, location, elevation, building area, or project phase so they are easier to review and share.

Do clients get access to an online portal?

Yes. When appropriate, clients can receive access to an online portal for organized delivery and off-site backup of project files. This is especially useful for recurring construction progress, residential property condition records, and long-term documentation projects.

How long are deliverables stored?

Storage depends on the project type and quoted scope. For portal-based projects, files can be organized for longer-term access as agreed before the project begins. Clients should also download and keep their own backup copies of important records.

Can files be downloaded and shared with contractors, insurance contacts, or property managers?

Yes. Final deliverables are intended to be easy to download, store, and share with contractors, insurance contacts, property managers, owners, project stakeholders, or other qualified professionals involved in the review.

Construction & Commercial Documentation

Do you offer recurring construction progress documentation?

Yes. Southview Drone Imaging provides recurring construction progress documentation for contractors and project managers who need weekly, biweekly, or monthly updates. Consistent angles and organized deliverables make it easier to compare visible progress over time.

Can you capture the same angles on recurring construction visits?

Yes. Recurring missions can be planned to repeat key views, elevations, and overview angles as closely as site conditions and airspace allow. This creates a more consistent visual record for progress comparison, stakeholder updates, and project documentation.

Can you work with general contractors, facility managers, or property managers?

Yes. Southview Drone Imaging works with contractors, facility teams, property managers, owners, and project stakeholders who need organized visual documentation. Requirements such as insurance certificates, site rules, access windows, and safety coordination can be reviewed before the flight.

Can you provide labeled photo sets for reports or project records?

Yes. Photo sets can be organized and labeled by date, location, structure, elevation, roof area, project phase, or other agreed categories. This helps make the imagery easier to reference in internal reports, maintenance records, project updates, or client communications.

Flight Conditions & Permissions

What happens if weather prevents the flight?

Flights are rescheduled when weather conditions are unsafe or unsuitable for the requested deliverables. Rain, high winds, nearby lightning, low visibility, and poor lighting can affect flight safety and image quality. Weather delays are handled with safety and deliverable quality in mind.

Do I need to be home during the flight?

For many exterior-only residential projects, you do not need to be home as long as the property can be safely accessed from an approved location and any gates, pets, or site restrictions are handled ahead of time. Some projects may require the owner, manager, or site contact to be present.

Can you fly in neighborhoods, near airports, or controlled airspace?

Often, yes, but it depends on the location. Before scheduling, I review airspace, airport proximity, authorization requirements, temporary flight restrictions, weather, and site conditions. Some controlled airspace flights may require FAA authorization before the work can be performed.

Do you need property owner approval before a drone flight?

For private-property projects, I confirm that the work is requested by the owner, tenant, manager, contractor, or another authorized contact. I do not enter, launch from, or land on private property without permission. Before each flight, I also review FAA airspace requirements, weather, site safety, privacy considerations, and any location-specific restrictions. Gated communities, HOAs, active construction sites, commercial properties, and managed facilities may require additional approval before the flight.
