FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers about drone services, scheduling, deliverables, and what to expect when working together in Central Florida.

Licensing & Insurance

Are you FAA certified to fly drones commercially in Florida?

Yes. All flights are conducted under FAA Part 107 regulations by a certified Remote Pilot. This is required for any paid drone work in the United States. I carry proof of certification and can provide it upon request for job site access or insurance verification.

Do you carry drone insurance?

Yes. I carry aviation liability insurance specifically for drone operations. Many general contractors and commercial clients require a Certificate of Insurance (COI) before work begins—I can provide this and add your company as an additional insured if needed.

Pricing & Scheduling

How much does drone photography cost?

Pricing depends on the scope: what's being documented, how much area, what deliverables you need, and whether it's a one-time capture or recurring service. Most single-visit projects fall in the $200–$500 range. Construction progress packages, recurring documentation, and more complex deliverables are quoted based on frequency and scope. I provide straightforward quotes with no hidden fees.

How quickly can you schedule a flight?

Most projects can be scheduled within a few days. For time-sensitive needs—storm damage documentation, insurance evidence, or urgent inspections—same-day or next-day flights are often possible depending on weather and airspace. Let me know your timeline and I'll do my best to accommodate it.

What happens if the weather is bad on the scheduled day?

Safety and image quality come first. If rain, high winds, or storms are forecast, I'll reach out to reschedule. Light clouds or overcast skies are usually fine—sometimes even ideal for even lighting. There's no charge for weather-related reschedules. I monitor conditions closely and keep you informed.

Deliverables & Turnaround

What do I receive after a drone flight?

Deliverables are tailored to your project. Common outputs include high-resolution edited photos, organized image sets by area or angle, short video clips, and downloadable files via a shared link. For construction and inspection work, images can be labeled and organized by zone, date, or feature. I'll discuss what format works best before the flight.

How long does it take to get my photos and video?

Most projects are delivered within 24–72 hours. Simple photo sets are often ready next-day. Projects requiring more post-processing—video editing, large image sets, or detailed labeling—may take a few additional days. Rush delivery is available when needed.

What is orthomosaic mapping?

Orthomosaic mapping stitches together hundreds of overlapping aerial images into a single, geometrically corrected, high-resolution map. The result is a scaled, measurable image that can be used for site planning, area calculations, volume estimates, and progress comparisons over time. It is commonly used in construction, land development, and agriculture.

Do I need to be on-site during the drone flight?

Not necessarily. If access is clear and objectives are defined ahead of time, I can complete most flights independently. For construction sites, I typically coordinate with the site super or PM. For inspections and documentation work, I can often coordinate site access with the owner, manager, or contractor in advance. We'll work out logistics beforehand.

Airspace & Flight Operations

Can you fly near Daytona Beach Airport or other controlled airspace?

Yes, in most cases. Parts of Volusia County fall within controlled airspace, but flights are still possible with proper authorization. I use LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability) to request real-time airspace approval. Some locations may have altitude limits or require advance coordination—I check every address before confirming.

How do you handle privacy when flying near neighboring properties?

I focus the camera on the subject property and avoid capturing unnecessary detail of neighbors, people, or private spaces. Flight paths are planned to minimize overflight of adjacent homes. Any incidental capture is reviewed before delivery, and I can blur or crop sensitive areas if needed.

What equipment do you use for drone imaging?

The heavy lifting is done by the DJI Matrice 4E, an enterprise-class platform with hybrid zoom, a mechanical shutter, and precise GPS positioning. For certain projects we also fly smaller platforms depending on the site and deliverables required. All equipment is maintained and calibrated for consistent, professional results.

Construction Documentation

Do you offer recurring construction progress documentation?

Yes. I work with contractors and project managers who need weekly, biweekly, or monthly aerial documentation throughout a build. Consistent angles and organized deliverables make it easy to compare progress over time. Recurring clients receive priority scheduling and streamlined delivery.

Can drone imagery help with construction disputes or project verification?

Aerial documentation creates a dated visual record of site conditions. This can be useful for verifying work completed, resolving disagreements about timelines, or supporting pay applications. Many contractors use progress photos as objective evidence when questions arise about what was done and when.

Inspections & Insurance

Can drone photos be used for insurance claims?

Yes. Drone imagery is commonly used for roof damage documentation, storm impact evidence, before-and-after comparisons, and property condition records. The photos are high-resolution, time-stamped, and suitable for adjusters, contractors, and claim files. I can also organize deliverables specifically for insurance submissions.

Can drones inspect roofs without walking on them?

Yes. Drones can capture detailed overhead and angled imagery of roof surfaces, showing wear patterns, debris, ponding, membrane condition, and flashing context—without anyone climbing up. This is useful for maintenance planning, pre-purchase inspections, and damage documentation. Drone imagery doesn't replace a licensed roofer's assessment, but it provides clear visual records.

Do you offer thermal or infrared drone imaging?

We do not offer thermal or infrared imaging at this time. Our focus is on high-resolution visual imaging, which covers the majority of inspection, documentation, and mapping needs. If your project specifically requires thermal data, we can refer you to a provider who specializes in that area.

Service Area & Getting Started

What areas do you serve in Central Florida?

I'm based in DeLand and serve all of Volusia County, including Daytona Beach, Deltona, Ormond Beach, Port Orange, and New Smyrna Beach. I also cover surrounding areas in Seminole, Orange, Flagler, and Lake counties. Travel outside this region is possible for larger projects.

Do you work with HOAs or property management companies?

Yes. We work with HOAs, property managers, and community associations for roof condition surveys, property documentation, common-area overviews, and before-and-after records for maintenance and insurance purposes. Aerial imaging gives boards and managers a clear, objective view of property conditions without scheduling individual unit access.

How do I get started or request a quote?

The easiest way is to reach out through the contact form or call directly. Let me know the location, what you're trying to document, and any deadlines. I'll confirm the airspace is flyable, provide a quote, and get you on the schedule. Most requests are answered the same day.
